I think everyone would agree that the show this year was a great success. The weather was perfect and we had more people through the gate, more horse show, dog and vintage entries than ever. Everyone appeared to have a good time and we were very pleased to hear one lady leaving the show say that “that was the best £3 I have ever spent!

We have not yet calculated the takings but I am pretty confident that it will be a record. The show takes a huge amount of work and it is thanks to the many from our community who give their time, money and effort to making this a success. I know of very few other places where so many people are prepared to give so much of their time for the good of the village.First a special thanks to Will Chase and Tyrrell’s who are the very generous main sponsors of the show. Then there are all the other show sponsors: Tarmac Ltd, Border Oak,Lady Arbour Farm, Philip Morris, I &JL Brown, Whittall Warehouses, TBA Associates Ltd; Barber and Manuel; George Bray, Molly Powell, Graham Dyer, Peter Stillwell, Chris Davies, Bruce Foster, Pat Wilcox, Alan Wellings Ed- ward Lewis, Erica Creer. (I hope I have not missed anybody)
The horse show was sponsored by Brightwells Equine Insurance, Barland Feeds, Hintons Country and Garden, Sue Adams Riding School, The Horse Boutique, Sun Valley Foods, Edwards Tree Surgery, Dengie Horse Feeds, Do- bson & Horrell Ltd.

David Fowler sponsored the vintage cars and engines. As usual we must thank Elwyn and Julie Hanson for allowing us to use Fields Place Meadow. There are very few sites as good as this for a village show! Our thanks also to Graham Rees for allowing us to store the show equipment in his barn, to Derek Lewis for the loan of his tractor, and to Elwyn for the post basher.

Thanks to the Bailey family and Katie Taylor for the publicity pictures. The raffle prizes were splendid thanks to the work of Liz Pledge and Rachel Smith and to the generous contributions from local firms, too many to mention by name, but thanks to them all for their generosity and thanks to Liz and Rachel for running such a successful raffle.

Thanks to my committee members: Pat and Ron Addis who at huge effort or- ganised the most successful horse show; Mary Weaver and Mary Grove who ran the splendid dog show; Chris Jennings who organised the refreshment tent, and here may I also thanks all those who helped to provide refreshments and to serve the teas. It is impossible to thank you all by name but we know who you are and we are most grateful. David Fowler organised the Vintage event and this again was bigger and better than ever, with some absolutely fabulous cars on display that made one green with envy! Peter Howard organised the Wild West Show and all the side shows and catering; Rachel Smith and Chris Rod- way organised the craft and produce stalls and Beryl Coombs had the difficult and unenviable task of Show Treasurer. Adrian Hoare ran the children’s and adult competitions. The children’s maypole and traditional dancing were again quite delightful and one of the high spots of the show thanks to the efforts of Heather King and the music and direction of Andy Davies. Thanks to the ladies of the Dilwyn WI who this year ran an absolutely splen- did produce stall – an impressive display of the talents of the ladies of the vil- lage, which sold like (dare I say it?) – “hot cakes”!Alec Whitfield did his usual highly professional job as show announcer aided by Erica Creer who did the commentary for the vintage parade. The Leominster Air Cadets helped again with traffic control and with running some of the side shows.

Thanks to Andy and the Crown Inn for running the bar and arranging the bands and the evening hog-roast.

Last, but not least, thanks for the efforts of  Peter Kyles and his team: Nial Styles Mathew Weatherby, Tim Kyles, Tony Bullon, Richard Thomas and Tim ? (sorry I do not know your surname!) who did all the very hard work of set- ting up and taking down the show, setting up the jumps, running the gate and so on. Alan Wellings helped by collecting and returning the jumps. If I have missed anybody, please forgive me.

The success of the show depends on the way so many people in Dilwyn are prepared to commit their time and effort for the good of the community. Thank you all!

Chairman Dilwyn Village Show Committee
