Herefordshire North is one of three districts in Herefordshire Division of the West Mercia Constabulary. It has seven Local Policing Teams. One of these teams, Kington Rural, covers the parish of Dilwyn.

    While not having any executive powers, the Council does play an active part in the life of the civil parish, dealing with such matters as planning applications, general amenities and maintenance of the area defined by the Parish boundaries, while supporting various organisations with grants, etc., where appropriate.

    Herefordshire Council came into existence in April 1998, taking over the responsibilities of a number of previous authorities - Leominster District Council, South Herefordshire District Council, Hereford City Council and Hereford-Worcester County Council. It also took over parts of Malvern Hills District Council.
