St Mary's Church

churchnewspire250
St Mary's church has served the community of Dilwyn for well over 800 years and has developed from a quite modest structure to the much extended building that exists today. The tower is the earliest part of the present church and dates to about 1200.

St Mary's still has a church choir and bell ringers but is now part of a team ministry. Activities linked to the church include Prayer Meetings, a Discussion Group, the Mothers Union and various fund raising events. A toilet has been added in the tower base which enables the church to be used for additional activities, such as the Tuesday coffee mornings, concerts etc. 2008 saw the restoration of the organ. In 2012 a major restoration of the spire and top of the tower took place. The newly clad spire can be seen in the picture on the right. Due to generous benefactor, the clock on the tower has been repaired and is once again in working order. Details about Dilwyn's bell ringers can be found here.
