At the end of last week, the Show Committee met to approve the programme, access and layout for this year's Dilwyn Show. It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that there will be no Dilwyn Show in 2017.

Chapel Fields, in the heart of the village has been our home for the past three years. Whilst loved by visitor and the Committee alike for its unique location, homely and friendly atmosphere, there are some inherent disadvantages. The absence of on-site parking means spectators walk some distance along a busy narrow highway. On a compact Show Ground, we have difficulty segregating pedestrians from moving vehicles and horses. The only vehicle access/ exit to the Show Ground is via Chapel corner, a single lane, narrow track. It is also one of two pedestrian entrances.

Our aim has always been to exceed the expectations of those coming through the gate, through the breadth and variety of activities and entertainment for the young and not so young - delivered in a safe environment, regardless of rain or shine.

The Committee considered removing some activities from this year's programme. We concluded that doing so would be detrimental to the Show's ongoing popularity and success and would have little effect in addressing the above concerns. A difficult decision and one that all on Committee were reluctant to come to. We had a good show programme planned, quite different to previous years and affordable with the Tyrrells support/ money we hold in reserve.

What of the future? Our priority is to find a new "home" for the Show. It has to be permanent pasture, with safe access away from fast roads, ideally around 20 acres in one or a series of connecting fields.

Thank you for supporting us in past years. Hopefully we'll see you next year.

Dilwyn's Show usually takes place every year on the May Day bank holiday in Dilwyn. The proceeds of the show supports local charities and village organisations. The show would not exist without its committee, army of volunteers and the support of local traders and companies. The show is centered arround the main arena with its varying special attractions each year. Around the arena are to be found refreshments, sideshows, crafts, rides, plants, beer tent and band. In addition there is both a horse show and a companion dog show. A display of classic and vintage vehicles together with a static engine display has proved popular each year.
The show always provides a great value fun day out for all types of families as has been proven, show after show, over all the years it has been running.

Tyrrells have sponsored the Dilwyn Village Show each year since 2004. Their support underwrites the considerable commitments that ensure each year's show delivers a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family. The Show would be very different without their support - for which the Committee is truly grateful.
